Budget Tips
Budgets are one of the least fun parts about world travel. Below are a few tips to help you get started on your trip.
- Set a budget and check in on it each week. We use this budget template from alittleadrift.com.
- Don’t expect to eat out like you’re on a one week vacation. Go to the grocery store and buy things like peanut butter and jelly. Also, carry a reusable water bottle so that you aren’t wasting money on beverages daily and you can help save the planet!
- Find free/cheap museums and activities to checkout. We have come across some interesting museums that we might not have gone to if we weren’t on a budget. Parks are also great for spending an afternoon people watching for free.
- Eat on the go. Whether its food trucks in England, boulangeries in Paris, or mall food courts in Bangkok your food will be cheaper if you aren’t paying for a sit down restaurant.
Those are our biggest tips to make sure you are staying within your budget. We are currently on month 7 of our first year around the world and we have spent just over $20,000 for two people traveling. The most helpful book we’ve read is How to Travel the World on $50 a Day. We will share more of our budget details in another post.
