5 steps for planning a world trip

1. Choose a continent

2. Choose a country

3. Start researching

4. Take a breath and close the computer/put down the phone.

5. Accept the fact that it doesn’t matter where you go. You will still have an amazing time.

In reality there are so many ways to plan for a world trip. Cameron and I are complete opposites when it comes to planning. I like to have read everything about a place and he likes to choose a place and show up. Both ways work.

When we started planning our trip we were starting in Australia working our way through Asia and then Europe. But while searching flights I found a cheap flight to London so we reversed our whole plan. And it has worked out wonderfully!

Don’t worry about countries that you are “supposed to” visit. If there is something that interests you in a country look up the visa info and choose a flight. Everything else will fall into place. And one way or another it will work.

Below is my process for choosing countries. It might work for you and it might not. Part of the fun of a world trip is learning a lot about yourself and what works for you.

1. Choose a country I’m interested in.

2. Try to read the whole internet about the country I’ve chosen. (this is a bad habit of mine that I’m working on)

3. Put flight alerts on Hopper and Skyscanner for flights.

4. Check AirBnb/hostel prices

5. Check visa info

6. Buy a flight, book a room and go!

In reality there are a million ways to plan your travel. Part of the fun is learning to go with the flow and knowing that the Universe will provide for you. The most important part is that you get up from your couch and GO. Travel can be daunting but it is also amazing and you will learn and grow and make mistakes along the way.
