Week 28

Day 190

After getting back from the island we needed to do laundry and get resettled in Siem Reap. We started the day with laundry at the Missing Sock Cafe. We are still loving this place! The people are wonderful, food and drinks are good and we got our laundry done.

It’s also Christmas Eve so we are trying to find the best spaghetti in Siem Reap to make up for missing spaghetti at home. The missing sock spaghetti was pretty yummy but we kept looking.

We hadn’t really noticed the road conditions in Siem Reap until our bumpy night bus ride. We tried to take some pictures of how big the holes in the road are but they didn’t come out well.

Also check out the checkout screen from the store. The price is listed in Riel and dollars. They don’t use change though. So if your change is $67.60 the 60 cents will be given in Riel.

At the store we found butter cookies which were as close as we were going to get to Christmas cookies this year. We opened the box of cookies and they were all broken. Cam said that they tasted the same but I questioned that…

We also had a Christmas movie marathon and got more spaghetti take out! It was a good night but we definitely missed everyone at home a lot!

Day 191

Merry Christmas! We got croissants to substitute for Christmas morning breakfast. We also found more cookies that weren’t broken! For dinner we had Cambodian food. It wasn’t a ‘normal’ Christmas but we enjoyed.

Day 192

Nothing much happened today. We finished settling back into Siem Reap and recovered from Christmas adventures yesterday.

Day 193

Today we happened to see the prettiest sunset as we walked to dinner. The sky in Cambodia shows such beautiful colors. The whole sky lights up too, not just near the sun.

For dinner we went to a taco truck up the street from our place. We had been scoping this place out and knew that they had real tortillas and tacos that looked like tacos! They were also delicious! The chips and salsa were a little on the small side but we enjoyed having real salsa.

Day 194

We didn’t have internet while on the island and then Christmas happened so we are a little behind on the blog. Today I spent most of the day catching up on the blog and enjoying too much coffee. Espresso Martinis are also my new favorite obsession.

After working on the blog for a while at The Missing Sock I headed to Pub street to wander around the market. Then went to Fat Panda, which is a great cafe that supports local projects, It is also pay what you want/pay it forward which was interesting.

Pub Street is getting ready for New Years Eve celebrations. They are putting up huge 2019 signs at the entrance of each street. As they were putting these up sawing and welding and lots of construction was happening as tourist wandered by.

Day 195

Another day in Cambodia means another delicious meal. Today we tried a new soup and a new curry and they were both so good. All of the spices and flavors are great.

Day 196

Today we spent a lazy day not doing much. We have found that taking a ‘weekend’ is still important while traveling. We get burnt out doing too much sightseeing and adventuring in a week. Cam got us some yummy takeout. We still get a kick out of soups coming in bags!

New Years from Cambodia coming next week.
